Even if you need both
hands to move around
with your wheel chair...

You can
serve
yourself
at
the buffet!

Tired of always needing other folks to help you carry stuff? Here's a low cost easy to make project that will help you both at home and when you go places! You may need some help from friends to execute this idea, but once you have this handy removable tray for your wheel chair... life gets easier! No more balancing cups of coffee or sandwiches on your lap from kitchen to living room. And, if you couldn't go to a buffet restaurant without someone with you to help you at the buffet, you can with Mark's Handi-Tray. This can be made to work on most wheelchairs.

More projects follow, but first an introduction...

Hi! I'm Mark Krell, and I am a double below the knee amputee... Life may have "dealt me a bad hand" but I'm going to make the best of it.... If you're disabled, I hope you feel the same way... There will always be things that we may have to rely on others for help, but there's always times when others cannot be around... So...

They've been making wheel chairs for thousands of years... Nobody ever had the problem of carrying things before us?... So, why aren't wheel chairs made with tray attachments?... (The only ones I've seen that have trays are for folks who are in much worse shape than I am)... I have addressed this and several other problems with success, and this website is my way of sharing my results with you in the sincere hope for the improvement of our mutual conditions...

Many of you will benefit from the ideas on these pages; some by using the ideas as they are presented, and some by adapting these ideas to meet your own requirements... Perhaps these ideas will inspire you to think of new things... Your new ideas are welcome on these pages... Hopefully you'll want to share them and help others (photo's are most helpful); and that you will send them to me for inclusion on this website... mark@discovery-us.com At any rate, I hope you will share your experiences with me and maybe we'll have a "What Folks Are Saying" page.

Keep in mind that these ideas have been developed from my perspective of my own physical condition and capabilities. Many of these concepts will work for you, but some may need some changes to accomodate your needs. I have tested these presentations and they are working for me. I have tried to include minimum requirements to use each idea, but I am not an expert, nor am I a medical practicioner. In other words, I don't know nuttin! I only work here! So... You agree to use these ideas at your own risk, and I urge you to read the full Disclaimer which appears at the bottom of this page.

A word to the "able bodied"...

I resisted writing this section because the focus of this website is clearly stated in its title. I'm not interested in using this site as a vent for my frustrations or ego. The link above is included because I realize that helping non handicapped persons to understand "handi" persons better really is providing practical help... Click on the above link if you'd like to better understand (at least some of) the disabled folks in your area.

I'll get by with the help of my friends...

If it weren't for Fred and Nathan and a bunch of other folks I know who have helped in many ways to get stuff I needed, cut wood, metal, put stuff together; and perhaps more important... Put up with me! And, their patience with me wanting to do the same job again a different way when the first solution seemed to need improvement. I feel like a simple Thank You! is wholly inadequate.

The Boss...
Candy put up with a lot during both the development of these pages, and the ideas presented herein... She's dodged drills, saws, vacuum cleaners; and she has been patient when I was busy, and a good friend, but...
She never let's me forget that... she's The Boss!
Humane Society Note: No animals were harmed during the making of these pages.

What I Do...
Some folks have asked me what I do for money... I sell unusual products on the internet... Here's an easy link to my products page.

One of my websites might be especially helpful to readers of this website... Check out this banner...

Contact Information...
Send me an email message mark@discovery-us.com. I check my email several times a day when I am here. There are many days during which I'd like to rip the phone wire out of the wall so I can get some work done. Calling me is not a good idea. For the same reason, I don't use paging programs. I do use iPhone and Net Meeting, and will meet you on their servers if we pre-arrange the meeting by email. Or, if you wish, you can send me a letter addressed to:
Mark - Box 24 - Buford, GA 30515-0024 - USA.

The Spiritual Side...
This site is primarily based on my thinking that when one becomes disabled they are faced with a choice between being an invalid or solving their mobility problems and getting on with their lives; and that many disabled individuals have the power to make that choice. It saddens me that this cannot always be true for persons with even more disabling conditions than mine.

This also may not be true for those who for whatever reasons are not in a "frame of mind" which allows for their developing practical solutions for problems which prevent their re-gaining as much control over their lives as possible.

Internet WWW Information...
There are many servers on the web containing information helpful to people with disabilities and limiting diseases.   It would be impossible for me to list them all here, but what I've found that will help you to find others easily are listed here:
AbilityHub - Assistive Technology for computers and disability.

I'm looking for casting companies (metal and plastic) who would
want to help the disabled, and get some tax advantages at the same
time... There are some special parts I wish we could make that
would help a lot of people.

My advertising policy:
I'm getting requests from business people who want me to link
to them from these pages... It's ok with me if you want to do
business with the disabled community, and if you understand
my position, you'll be able to predict my answer to your inquiry.

Maintaining this site on the internet costs me money; and I don't
want to "junk" it up either... If your offering provides real help
that is unusual or unique, or super low prices, I'd consider featuring
you, maybe only requiring you to display my banner link at the bottom
of your home page (see Linking Information above) but above any lengthy
copyright or legal notices). This, in the spirit of us working together
to help others...

If your offering is (in my opinion) "run-of-the-mill", I'll evaluate it
and make a proposal to you pricing the display at a nominal monthly rate
which might range from as little as $15, depending on the amount of
content.
